Toyoura Shogakkou

One of the 2-nensei classes:

and 1-nensei:

Nice to meet you!

"Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes..."

I have given in and learned the English/American version of this song, because I was just confusing the kids by singing it to the tune of "London Bridge is falling down" when all their CDs play it the other way. Fellow Canadians may be surprised to learn that we sing this song to a different tune than other English-speaking countries!

We enjoyed your blog! We were in Japan years ago and would go back in a heart beat. How did you get to be so lucky to be traveling all over Asia...

Every nursery rhyme should be sung to the tune of 'London Bridges'! I can't understand why Canadians are the only ones who feel this way. A song shouldn't even be classified as a nursery rhyme unless it has the unmistakable chord progression of 'London Bridges'. 'London Bridges' is to nursery rhymes what the 12 bar blues progression is to Rock & Roll. ;)

Miss you!

Hey there...
I am sure you will be surprised to know that we learn it the Canadian way too... I think it is the British way. Most kids know both though... Don't feel different to all English speaking countries...

We usually sing it to "London Bridge" in the U.S., too. Don't know where the other version came from.

Good to know, Ellen! that makes me feel better. The Brits I've talked to sing it the same way as the Americans. Even "the Wiggles" sing it this way (Becky claims that this is the true British way ;)
The teachers used to give me really confused looks when I'd sing the slow version before I learned there was another way to sing it! I tried to find as many different versions of it as I could to download, but they were all the same! I finally had to check with a few other Canadian people to make sure it wasn't just me who had learned it to "London Bridge." I guess I should have checked with some Australians too though, eh? (there are very few to be found way down here, so forgive me ;)

Jagaimogirl: Hmm, maybe it's a regional thing then? I guess it's more complicated than I thought! f
